LISTEN is a utility that will monitor a system's modem for a ringing status. If there is no ringing, LISTEN can tell a batch file (like AUTOEXEC.BAT) that there is no ringing so the batch file can branch off accordingly. If there IS ringing, it also notifies the batch file of such a situation. LISTEN would come in handy for folks using a remote switch for their system, to set a batch file to load up remote access software if the phone line is ringing when the system boots up. LISTEN will check the specified serial port (Either a standard COM port or a non-standard address specified on the command line) for a predetermined amount of time (also specified on the command line). LISTEN will "listen" to the COM port by checking your modem for a "RING" response, or optionally reading the Modem Status Register and checking the Ring Detect bit. LISTEN was written with GFA Basic.
Here are a few features in the LISTEN program:
* Automatically detects COM port address
* Has a 'Use Modem Status Register Mode' switch
* Use MSR Mode can save you up to 1.5 seconds boot time
* Command line parameters can be in any order
* The delay time can be set at any number of seconds, including fractions of seconds.
